Chemical giant Dow confirms employees' infection with new crown virus, protection management is imminent!
On March 17th, Dow Chemical stated in a statement that from March 2nd to March 11th, after a contract worker at Specialty Welding Services (SWS) worked at the Dow plant in Plaquemine, COVID-19 was detected as a positive infection.
It is understood that SWS employees infected with the virus only work in one production unit in the plant's LHC unit, which poses a small risk to others outside the contractor team. Both Dow and SWS said that all workers in close contact with the worker had been tested for the virus. They will isolate themselves until all test results are available.
On March 17, Dow Chemical announced the company's response plan to the incident:
Dow said it would not “enclose” key personnel at its Placaming plant because it would negatively affect employees and their families.
The Dow Chemical principal said that Dow would not close the Placaming plant.
However, they will follow the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure employee safety.
In addition to personal hygiene, cleaning, disinfection, and social isolation, Dow will also implement the following measures:
● All people who can work from home work remotely
● The factory does not accept foreign visitors
● Intensify the temperature monitoring of employees entering the site
● On-site buffet restaurant only offers packed lunches
It is reported that Dow has the largest petrochemical plant in the state and has more than 6,000 contract employees. It generates more than $ 1 billion in revenue for the state each year and plays a vital role in the global economy.
The Dow Plaquemine plant is the first chemical plant in Louisiana to report an employee who is positive for coronavirus.
