How to add defoamer in the production and when add?

Defoamer-the main function is to eliminate foam to inhibit foam regeneration. Defoamer can be widely used in all walks of life, but the body is small but the effect is fine. However, for those who do not know much about it and the first use of defoamers, there is a problem that bothers them, and when is the defoamer added? Is it added before use or when it comes to foam? Ok, Now Let's learn when and how to add defoamer.

(The picture shows a serious foaming site)

Most workers who use defoamers add defoamers when they produce foam. In fact, not only can you join when you are bubbling! We will use silicone defoamers as an example. Silicone defoamers have four conventional methods of addition:
1. Adding before foaming: This method can suppress the production of foam by previously adding an antifoaming agent to a system which may generate foam. For closed containers and devices, defoamers are effective in eliminating foam.
2. Continuous dropwise addition: When the foaming liquid is circulated or flows, the defoaming agent will be consumed along with the circulating flow of the foaming liquid, in which case the continuous defoaming agent is used. The defoaming agent can effectively exert the effect of eliminating the foam, and if it is supplemented by the metering pump, the dosage can be effectively controlled to achieve the most economical use of the defoaming agent (this method is suitable for mass production foaming).
3. Self-controlled addition: Any foaming liquid does not necessarily foam from beginning to end. When there is foaming, the amount of foam does not have an accurate pattern. The defoamer is added to supplement the consumption, and it is not necessary to add it when it is not foaming. Therefore, a self-controlled addition method can be adopted to automatically add an antifoaming agent according to the foaming aura.
4. Gap addition: If it is not continuous foaming, and the foaming is not serious, the defoaming agent may be added once or periodically. Since the amount of the antifoaming agent added is small, in order to make the antifoaming agent uniformly dispersed, it should be added in a place where the foaming liquid is drastically shaken. Many occasions can be added by hand. If the blister is violent or for rapid defoaming, it can be sprayed with a spray gun.
After reading the above points, is there a certain understanding of when to add defoamer? Defoamers are not necessarily added at the time of foaming. We can add them before foaming to prevent foaming. We can also add defoamer according to the harbinger of foaming... Why Foam could be so inconvenient ? A light foam is generally not problematic in most applications however heavy foaming can often lead to various processing problems. These problems range from inaccurate readings from control and measuring equipment such as temperature, level and density controllers to poor mixing of reactants in chemical reaction vessels and products hanging in the foam, all too often leading to losses in production. Finally the presence of foaming can give a bad image of the way a process is operated in the eyes of a customer. The presence of foam in discharged effluent can cause complaints from local people and authorities even if the foam is harmless to people and the environment. How do silicone defoamers work ? Foam is a gas dispersion in a liquid or solid continuous phase. Foam iscreated by the surfactants which are at the air/liquid interface. Therefore air bubbles occur and are stabilised by the surfactants. Today, silicone antifoams are thebest solution to a...

How do we assess antifoam efficiency ?

How do we assess antifoam efficiency ? Quality of an antifoam is given by two main characteristics : • Knockdown ability or shock effect :Meaning the speed to destroy an existing foam. • Persistence or durability : Meaning the efficiency over time.   These two parameters can be assessed by several tests. The main test is the bubbling method. A graduated column with a glass frit in the bottom is required. Foaming water is poured in the column and air at constant flowrate is introduced through the glass frit in the column. Foam is generated by the air and starts to travel up the column. At a determined level of foam, antifoam is injected. By this method several antifoaming agents can be tested. A graph reporting foam height vs time is very helpful to establish the knockdown ability and the persistence for each product. The selected antifoam is the product with the best compromise between shock effect and durability       Environmental performance   Silicone antifo...
