How to dilute silicone defoamer?

How to dilute silicone defoamer?
Ø  Raw Material
Silicone defoamer 200g
Clean water (deionized water, tap water) 768g
Thickener 30g (3.0% of total defoamer)
Preservative 2g (0.2% of total defoamer)
Appropriate amount of alkaline water (10% NAOH solution)
Ø  Steps
1. Add 30g of thickener to 768g of water, add 30g of thickener, stir for 5min, add 2g of preservative, and carefully adjust the pH of the above thickener aqueous solution with alkaline water (10% NAOH solution) Adjust to 7.0~7.5 (preferably 7.5). Note that when the aqueous solution gradually becomes clear from the light milky white, the viscosity also increases, and the alkaline water needs to be added very slowly;
2. Add 200g of silicone defoamer to the above prepared thickened water, stir evenly, and measure whether the pH value is between 7.0~7.5. After passing the test, it can be discharged.
Ø  Note
1. In this method, the concentration of the thickener is 3.0%. If you feel the final product viscosity is low, you can increase the thickener concentration (such as increased to 3.5%, 4% or higher) and vice versa. However, it should not be less than 1.5%, and it should not be diluted directly with water. Otherwise, the diluted defoamer is unstable and easy to stratify, demulsifie and float.
2. When mixing and mixing, the stirring speed should not be too fast. It is recommended that the rotation speed should not exceed 60 rpm. Generally, the mixture can be sampled for 5 minutes to observe whether there are obvious doughs and avoid stirring for a long time.
3. It is recommended to carry out pre-sterilization treatment on the clean water source (such as tap water and deionized water), such as adding 5~10ppm of strong chlorin.
4. The above method is only applicable to our silicone defoamer. Whether it is also applicable to other company products, there is no guarantee that customers can experiment and judge by themselves according to this method.
5. Our company is not responsible for the adverse consequences of qualified products due to improper dilution (such as: decreased stability, decreased foaming performance, bleaching, demulsification, delamination, mildew, etc.).

invely-defoamers

Why Foam could be so inconvenient ? A light foam is generally not problematic in most applications however heavy foaming can often lead to various processing problems. These problems range from inaccurate readings from control and measuring equipment such as temperature, level and density controllers to poor mixing of reactants in chemical reaction vessels and products hanging in the foam, all too often leading to losses in production. Finally the presence of foaming can give a bad image of the way a process is operated in the eyes of a customer. The presence of foam in discharged effluent can cause complaints from local people and authorities even if the foam is harmless to people and the environment. How do silicone defoamers work ? Foam is a gas dispersion in a liquid or solid continuous phase. Foam iscreated by the surfactants which are at the air/liquid interface. Therefore air bubbles occur and are stabilised by the surfactants. Today, silicone antifoams are thebest solution to a...

How do we assess antifoam efficiency ?

How do we assess antifoam efficiency ? Quality of an antifoam is given by two main characteristics : • Knockdown ability or shock effect :Meaning the speed to destroy an existing foam. • Persistence or durability : Meaning the efficiency over time.   These two parameters can be assessed by several tests. The main test is the bubbling method. A graduated column with a glass frit in the bottom is required. Foaming water is poured in the column and air at constant flowrate is introduced through the glass frit in the column. Foam is generated by the air and starts to travel up the column. At a determined level of foam, antifoam is injected. By this method several antifoaming agents can be tested. A graph reporting foam height vs time is very helpful to establish the knockdown ability and the persistence for each product. The selected antifoam is the product with the best compromise between shock effect and durability       Environmental performance   Silicone antifo...
